At Château Pech-Latt, each grape variety expresses its individuality, rooted in the traditions of our terroir and nurtured by environmentally respectful practices.
Discover our key grape varieties and their essential role in the identity of our AOC Corbières wines.
1. Carignan: A historic grape of the South, Carignan reveals its full richness in Château Pech-Latt's plots. This variety stands out with intense aromas of cherry, black cherry, and red fruits, complemented by subtle spicy notes such as nutmeg and cinnamon. Its finish includes a delicate hint of licorice, offering freshness and indulgence. In 2024, our parcel-based approach allowed Carignan to fully flourish, giving birth to the Maquis des Corbes cuvée, marked by unique aromatic intensity and great finesse.
2. Grenache: The emblematic grape of the estate, Grenache thrives in our most beautiful parcels, pruned in gobelet style. In 2024, despite lower yields, the quality was exceptional, with impeccable health. Grenache offers a fruity flavor palette, blending currants and small cherries, enhanced by natural freshness. Carefully vinified, it reveals the delicacy of the terroir in our Mémoire d'Alaric cuvée, where it plays a central role in the wine’s aromatic depth.
3. Syrah: A noble variety of our terroir, Syrah demonstrated remarkable potential in 2024, with healthy vines and intense aromas. This grape offers fascinating aromatic diversity, combining floral notes of violet and dark fruits like blackberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry. Young vines contribute freshness, while old vines provide incomparable depth. The Terres Mûres cuvée highlights Syrah, delivering a rich and harmonious wine that balances floral elegance and fruity intensity.
4. Mourvedre: A late-ripening and demanding grape, Mourvèdre reveals its finesse on our terroirs. The 2024 vintage showcased remarkable complexity, balancing the freshness of young vines with the depth of very old vines. This variety offers a perfect balance between peppery notes and fresh red fruits, such as wild strawberries. Our Île Ardente cuvée, vinified without added sulfites, magnifies Mourvèdre with freshness and a long finish, guaranteeing a wine of great purity.
5. Marselan: A cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, Marselan is a unique grape we cultivate with care on our estate. In 2024, this variety particularly stood out, with grapes rich in aromas and perfectly ripened. Marselan is characterized by ripe fruit notes and remarkable smoothness, without astringency. The Jardin Selan cuvée perfectly expresses this variety, offering a balanced and generous wine with great aromatic finesse.
GRAND VIN DU CHÂTEAU: Château Pech-Latt, through meticulous winemaking methods, demonstrates a profound commitment to quality and authentic terroir expression. The combination of 90% traditional destemmed maceration and 10% carbonic maceration, specifically for Syrah and Cinsault, enhances the wine’s aromatic complexity and the softness of its tannins, resulting in a balanced and approachable profile. Fermentation at 27°C ensures optimal extraction of aromas and colors, increasing the wine’s richness and intensity. Cold fermentation at the end of the process stabilizes the characteristics and preserves the fruity freshness. Gentle pressing after fermentation ensures that only the best extracts contribute to the final cuvée, avoiding harsh tannins and preserving finesse. Aging on fine lees in concrete tanks for seven months enriches the wine, giving it a velvety texture and increased complexity without masking the natural grape nuances. Finally, racking before bottling ensures the clarity and purity of the wine, reflecting Château Pech-Latt's dedication to excellence at every stage of winemaking.
MÉMOIRE D'ALARIC / TERRES MÛRES / LE MAQUIS DES CORBES / JARDIN SELAN: Château Pech-Latt, through meticulous winemaking methods, demonstrates a profound commitment to quality and authentic terroir expression. A prolonged vinification process, with 20 days of maceration, is followed by several months of aging in concrete tanks. This approach ensures perfect control of the elements, especially oxygen, for the gentle and delicate extraction of aromas and tannins.
