Our Corbières region, emblematic of the Languedoc region, stands out for the diversity of its grape varieties and the richness of its soils.
At Château Pech-Latt, we grow the main grape varieties of the Corbières AOC appellation organically over 130 hectares. They are fully expressed in our unique wines, which reflect a unique terroir rooted in tradition and enhanced by environmentally-friendly practices.
Here's an overview of these grape varieties and their contribution to the identity of our AOC Corbières wines.
1. Carignan: Vibrant
Description: A historic grape variety of the Corbières, Carignan is prized for the structure it gives to the wines. Carefully grown, it blends perfectly with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
Special features of Carignan at Château Pech-Latt: we use cold vinification to capture the delicate aromas of ripe red fruit, with subtle hints of aniseed and candy. This approach sets our wines apart from the appellation's profiles, revealing unexpected finesse and freshness.
Our flagship Carignan-dominant wine LE MAQUIS DES CORBES
2. Grenache: Treasure of Pech-Latt
Description : Grenache is a generous grape variety, revealing rich aromas of ripe red fruit, sometimes jammy. With its roundness and volume, it softens blends while retaining a fine structure on the palate.
Characteristics of the Grenache at Château Pech-Latt: The Grenache vines at the Château produce wines with delicate, silky aromas, marked by notes of red fruit alone. It is particularly appreciated by our cellar master as it balances and adds natural freshness, the olfactory signature of Chateau Pech-Latt wines.
Our flagship Grenache-dominant wine MÉMOIRE D'ALARIC.
3. Syrah: finesse and elegance
Description: Syrah is resistant to hydric stress and its aromas vary according to the age of the vines, ranging from floral to candied blackberry and blackcurrant.
Particularities of the Syrah at Château Pech-Latt: Delicate and complex on the palate, it is worked without the usual notes of spice and white pepper.
Our flagship Syrah, dominant wine TERRES MÛRES.
4. Mourvèdre: Complexity and richness
Description: A late-ripening grape variety, Mourvèdre is prized for its tannins and fruit aromas, which vary according to the terroir.
Characteristics of Mourvèdre at Château Pech-Latt: It gives structure and longevity to the wines, with a good capacity for ageing. Organic viticulture allows Mourvèdre to develop to the full, expressing the minerality of the soil and more intense aromas.
Our flagship Mourvèdre-dominant wine L'ILE ARDENTE.
5. Marselan: A modern creation
Description : A cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, Marselan is a relatively recent grape variety, producing wines with lively, delicate aromas.
Characteristics of Marselan at Château Pech-Latt: It combines the fruitiness and generosity of Grenache with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. This innovative grape variety is particularly well-suited to organic growing, producing well-balanced wines with great finesse.
